Sweet Sleep’s Help for Haiti
As you might already know, Sweet Sleep has been working in Haiti since 2008 after the hurricanes and subsequent rock and mud slides battered and buried much of the country. We were able to provide beds and bedding for an orphanage in Jacmel, just 25 miles from Port-au-Prince.
It’s been reported that the orphan population could have tripled since the 7.0 earthquake struck. Our partners on the ground in Haiti have turned to Sweet Sleep for help.
We were immediately asked to provide bedding for 2,000 orphans—many of whom have just lost their parents. On Wednesday, January 20, we held a bedding drive at the CoolSprings Galleria Mall and Brentwood Baptist Church, where we collected a combination of over 2,500 mats, sheets and blankets. A huge container full of these items sailed out of Miami the following Saturday and headed for the Dominican Republic. There, it will be transported into Haiti and distributed to the children living on a 6-acre campus that our partners have opened as a transitional campus. Items from a second relief drive through Brentwood Baptist Church are about to be shipped to Haiti for distribution among several other partners and orphanages.
Sweet Sleep would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who donated mats, sheets, blankets and Bibles to the drive, as well as the many volunteers who gave their time to help make the bedding drive a success. Additionally, we greatly appreciate the management of Cool Springs Mall and the missions department of Brentwood Baptist Church for offering to be our collection sites. We also appreciate each radio and news station that covered our relief drive and helped spread the word. Many Haitian orphans will soon be sleeping sweeter because of the quick response from the city of Nashville. Thank you!
